Obituary of Harry David Fidler

Harry David Fidler, 83, of Peoria, died on April 13, 2014. He was born on December 7, 1930 in Peoria to Eli and Hilda (Shaw) Fidler. Harry married Elsie Mae Baker on May 24, 1959 in Trivoli. Harry is survived by his wife, Elsie of Peoria, daughter, Shelly R. (Dave) Frazier of Chillicothe, one brother, Walter (Shirley) Fidler, two sisters, Beverly Brown and Claire Jean Larke, two granddaughters, Tracy R. (Robert) Collins of Prescott, Wisconsin, and Melissa L. (Blake) Gowans of Central Point, Oregon, two great-grandchildren, Noah R. and Siara P. Collins, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was a dedicated Police Officer with the City of Peoria for 32 years before he retired as a Lieutenant in 1987. He was A Policeman's Policeman and was meticulous for details. Harry's career in law enforcement was legendary and was thought to be the end of an era in the City Police force when he retired by the Peoria Police Superintendent at the time of his retirement. Harry was a loyal husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He and his wife Elsie had a good life in which they loved each other deeply. His daughter Shelly was his pride and joy. He was a strong, protective influence in her life. Harry exposed her to many new places and experiences during her life that she will never forget. He was a loving and fun grandfather that took his grandchildren on many wonderful life adventures. When his great grandchildren came along he couldn't have been a more proud great grandfather. He showed his pride in them through countless photos thrust upon anyone who would look at them. Anyone who was lucky enough to know him, was lucky enough. He was a great man, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather that will be dearly missed. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am, Friday, April 18, 2014 at Cumerford-Hurd Funeral Home, located at 428 West McClure Avenue in Peoria. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 17, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Swan Lake Memory Gardens following the funeral service.
