Obituary of Nancy Lindsey

Nancy Ann (Day) Lindsey, age 92, died Friday, June 2, 2017, at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria, IL, where she had resided since 2003. Born in Lewistown, Montana, Mrs. Lindsey moved with her family five times before settling in Peoria in 1937. She graduated from Peoria High School in 1942. Mrs. Lindsey, married to Judson S. Lindsey in 1945, was preceded in death by him. She is survived by Michael D. (Ruth) of Chicago, Thomas J. of Oak Park, and Ann Viger of Crystal Lake, nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lyall W. and Nellie (Robilliard) Day; four sisters, Dora Phillips, Jane Aitken, Peggy Ellis Hasselberg and Sally Seyller; and her daughter-in-law Barbara (Baechle) Lindsey. Following high school Mrs. Lindsey worked in the insurance department at Caterpillar. Later in life she worked at Sheridan Bank and the Scottish Rite Cathedral. A member of Westminster Presbyterian Church since 1939, she served as a Deaconess and as Sunday School Superintendent. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and was an active member of her Church Circle. She held various offices in P.E.O. Chapter R, of which she was a member since 1951. She was a Den Mother, Girl Scout Leader and CanSurmount Volunteer. Mrs. Lindsey served others cheerfully and with generosity. She was a loving and energetic homemaker. Her hobbies included antiquing and rock collecting. She was inquisitive, an avid reader, a correspondent and history buff. She enjoyed music and playing the piano as well as sewing, gardening and knitting - especially Christmas stockings for her grandchildren. She delighted in family vacations, outings with the Catfish Club, and attending theater and symphonic events. Keen interest in her ancestry led to discovery and development of relationships with extended family throughout the US and Great Britain. She was a four time cancer survivor and credited her survival to deep faith in God’s amazing grace. Visitation will be held at the Waters of Life Chapel at Lutheran Hillside Village, 6901 N. Galena Rd., Peoria, on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 9:30 AM, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM. Pr. Jeff Harter and Rev. Denise Clark-Jones will preside. Cumerford-Hurd Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lutheran Hillside Village Benevolent Fund and Westminster Presbyterian Church, Peoria.
