Obituary of James "Jim" Smith

James "Jim" L. Smith, age 73, of Peoria Heights, passed away at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria on Monday, June 26, 2017. He was born to Edward Franklin and Emily Annette (Anderson) Smith on May 11, 1944 in Peoria. He married Linda Mae Furioni on May 15, 1965 in Easthampton, MA. Jim is survived by his wife Linda Smith of Peoria Heights; brothers, Ed Smith of Farmington and Gary (Judy) Smith of Bartonville; sisters, Connie Colvin of Bartonville, Pat (Marvin) Welk of Delavan, Karen (Greg) Jones of Peoria, and Ruth (Ed) Burnette of Peoria; nieces and nephews whom he adored, Danny, Regina, Amy, Leslie, Chris, Catrina, Kelsy, Katie, Adam, Eddie, Aaron, Wayne, and Debbie; and brother-in-law Richard Furioni of North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. After earning his GED, Jim worked for Caterpillar in the factory. He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed bowling and golfing. After his retirement from CAT, he worked part time at Newman Golf Course. A funeral service for Jim will be held at Cumerford-Hurd Funeral Home at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 30, 2017. Father Stark will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home the evening before, and also one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held at Swan Lake Memory Gardens with military rites. Memorials in honor of Jim may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or American Diabetes Association.
