Obituary of Lois Verkler

Lois R. Verkler, age 94, passed away on Friday, June 23, 2017 at her home in Centennial, CO. She was born to the late Val and Edith (Natterstad) Ryden on May 2, 1923 in Peoria. She married James Verkler on October 27, 1946 in Peoria, and they celebrated 63 years of marriage before his passing on September 1, 2010. Lois was also preceded in death by her sister Marilyn Tillotson, and brother William Ryden. She is survived by her children, Diane Verkler of Colorado, Timothy (Linda Dawn) Verkler of Oregon, and Dr. Christopher (Tamara) Verkler of Colorado; 7 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. Lois earned her BA in Music from Bradley University, where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. She was a docent at Lakeview Art Museum, a puppeteer for Peoria Symphony Guild Puppet Show, and a member of PEO, Current Events Club, and Garden Clubs in Peoria and Ft Myers Beach. She enjoyed making various works of art and loved sailing. A funeral service for Lois will be held at First United Methodist Church, 116 NE Perry Ave., Peoria on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Dr. Tim Ozment will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held in Springdale Cemetery.
