Obituary of Merl Malson

Merl Malson, age 91, of Creve Coeur, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at Amy's Country Manor in Pekin. He was born to Frank and Ethel (Shumake) Malson on February 9, 1926 in St. Charles County, MO. He married Bernice Elleen Slane on July 4, 1954 in Peoria. Merl is survived by his wife Bernice of Pekin; children, Frank (Mickey) Malson of Creve Coeur, Lorraine Sue (Arnold) Bartholomew of East Peoria, and Char (Ronnie) Burnette of Peoria; grandchildren, Vincent, Brett, Scott, Bridget, Doranna, and Bernica; eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Shirley Grimm of Roxanne. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Raymond Malson; two brothers, Wayne and Kenny; and one sister, Delores. He served in the United States Army from June 21, 1944 to April 3, 1946. Merl was an automotive mechanic for many years, and then worked for BFI as a Diesel Mechanic for 15 years. A funeral service for Merl will be held at 11:30 AM on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Cumerford-Hurd Funeral Home in Peoria. Rev. Kim Dancey will officiate. Visitation will be held one and a half hours prior to the funeral at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Swan Lake Memory Gardens.
