Obituary of Dorothy Sutton

Dorothy C. Sutton, age 97, of Peoria, passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Hawthorne Inn Garden Court in Peoria. Dorothy was born on May 14, 1920 in Peoria to Henry and Marie (Ganion) Eisenbach. Her parents preceded her in death. She married Robert Cecil Sutton on September 28, 1940 in Burlington, IA. He died on May 19, 2006 in Peoria. She was also preceded in death by one son, John Sutton, and three sisters, Christine Sharp, Helen Hayes, and Ruth Lampe. Surviving are two sons, Bruce (Darlene) Sutton and David (Karen) Sutton; one daughter-in-law, Mary Sutton; four grandchildren, Tim (Shannon) Sutton, Doug (Jackie Tiezzi) Sutton, Curt (Ann) Sutton, and Sierra Sutton; and three great-grandchildren, Alicia Sutton, Emmett Sutton, and Nolan Sutton. Dorothy was a lifetime member of Forrest Hill United Methodist Church, where she was heavily involved in Sunday School. She also sang in the choir for 49 years and was active in the Women's Society at church. She was a member of the Otho Temple #36 Daughters of the Nile for 58 years, and served as the Temple Queen in 1969. She filled many different positions within Daughters of the Nile. She served as Princess Banker for 14 years and as an organist for 6 years. Dorothy was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Dorothy's family would like to sincerely thank the management and staff at Hawthorne Inn for their love and care, and offer a special thank you to Mae Roberts of UnityPoint Health Methodist Hospice. A memorial service for Dorothy will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Cumerford-Hurd Funeral Home in Peoria. Deacon Joe Lahood and Reverend Cecilia Granadosin will officiate. Burial will take place at Swan Lake Memory Gardens on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Forrest Hill United Methodist Church, 706 E.
