Obituary of Donald McLaughlin

CHILLICOTHE - Donald (Donnie Mac) G. McLaughlin, 67, of Sunnyland formerly of Chillicothe passed away at his home on Saturday, September 16, 2017. Don was born on December 9, 1949 in Peoria the son of Leslie and W. Jean (Blew) McLaughlin. Surviving is his sister, Barbara O'Connor of Chillicothe; a brother, Richard (Kelly) McLaughlin of Mossville; two nieces Kara (Adam) Karbarec and their children, Mason and Carson, and Kelsey (Chris) Ogden; and two nephews, Nicholas (Kayla) Darnell and Jacob Simonton. He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Ronald; and brother-in-law Phillip O'Connor. Don worked as an independent carpet installer. He also worked with his father and brother in the roofing business. Currently he was a bartender for the Bunker in Sunnyland. Don was a US Army Veteran during the Vietnam War era, serving from 1969 to 1972. He was a member of American Legion Post 100 in Washington. Don played both fast and slow pitch softball for over 20 years. He coached a women's team for many years. Don enjoyed shooting pool in a league and his team won city wide tournament in 2014. He was an avid Cubs Fan. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 24, 2017 starting at 12:00 noon at the Bunker, located at 100 West Bittersweet Road in Sunnyland. Military rites will be conducted at 2:00 PM at the Bunker. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Vietnam Veteran of Illinois for the purchase of memorial bench.
