Obituary of Luella Kenyon

Luella A. Kenyon, 94, passed away on Monday, September 25, 2017 at Heritage Health in Chillicothe. Luella was born on October 10, 1922 to James and Mabel (Bland) Biggar in rural Sparland. She married Harold D. Kenyon on September 8, 1945 at the parsonage of the LaPrairie United Presbyterian Church in rural Sparland. Surviving are her children: James B. Kenyon of rural Chillicothe, Ronald (Theresa) of rural Sparland and daughter Kay (George) Ryan of rural Chillicothe. Grandchildren: Brandi (Randy) Boomgarden of Naperville, Jodie (Doug) Goard of Varna, Jamie (Matt) McClure of Macomb, Michael Kenyon of Tucson, AZ, David (fiancée Jill Piper) Kenyon of rural Chillicothe, and Diana (Brian Kapusta) Kenyon of Belvidere and one step-grandchild, Andrew of Orlando, FL. She has twelve great grandchildren and several adopted great grandchildren. Her sisters: Wilma (Norman) Sieb of South Lyon, MI, Bernice (Francis) Read of Henry, and Barbara Biggar of Chillicothe. Many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold on April 17, 1994, her parents and brother Glen Biggar. Luella was a farmer's wife for 49 years. She loved to cook and bake. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting, canning, gardening, fishing, reading and making rugs on her loom. She loved having parties for her grandchildren and other children in the neighborhood. She was a lifelong member of the LaPrairie United Presbyterian Church, active in their women's group, a Sunday school and bible school teacher for years. She also a youth group leader with her husband and arranged many scavenger hunts, taffy pulls, and other activities that involved cookouts, wiener roasts and hayrack rides. She also was one of the key member in her church that started the "Blanket Brigade" making and donating thousands of lap robes over the year to area nursing homes, orphanages, veteran homes and hospitals and crisis centers with far reaching mission to Haiti India and Canada. She continued to sew the lap robes until about a year ago when her eyesight failed. The family wishes to thank Heritage Health for their compassionate care. Luella's funeral will be held at the LaPrairie United Presbyterian Church of Sparland on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held at Weber-Hurd Funeral home in Chillicothe on Wednesday evening from 5-7:00 pm and also one hour prior to the service time at the Church. Burial will be in the LaPrairie United Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Please, in lieu of flowers consider a donation to her church or the LaPrairie United Presbyterian Cemetery Association.
