Obituary of Betty Gustin

PEORIA - Betty Jeanette Loser Gustine, 95 of Peoria passed away at the Proctor Endowment Home in Peoria on Saturday, April 28, 2018. Betty was born on March 15, 1923 to Henry W. and Beatrice (Keil) Loser. She married Richard Cullen Gustin, a disabled veteran of World War II, on March 7, 1947. He preceded her in death in February 1948. Betty is survived by three nieces; four nephews; several great nieces and nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Arla Lorraine Loser Magoun Schreiber and Rosemary Patience Loser Komm. Betty attended Lincoln College in Lincoln, IL; the University of Minnesota, and Bradley University. She earned a BS degree in Business Administration, a MS degree in Secondary Education and a MA degree in Guidance and Counseling. Betty was a PhM3/c in the US Navy WAVES. She was an airline hostess for TWA. Betty taught Business Education classes at Dunlap High School and the Peoria Public School. She served on the Board of Directors for Share food Inc., the Peoria Women's Civic Federation, Inc., the Peoria County Old Settler's Association, the Peoria County Republic women's Group and the Peoria Area Evening Group of Stonecroft Ministries. Betty was a 50-year member of the First United Methodist Church of Peoria. She was a Stephens Minister, a Master Gardner, a Vagabond Tour Escort, a life member of the Electa Chapter of Eastern Star and a 50-year member of the AAUW. As a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, a national honorary teacher's sorority, Betty served as Vice President of the Waster District. Betty's body has been donated to the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois. She will be remembered at the next Celebration of Life program held at Proctor Endowment Home in Peoria where she lived. Cumerford-Hurd Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to charities she was active in.
