Obituary of Chester Coffey

Chillicothe - Chester Norman Coffey, 61 of Chillicothe was received into God’s care on June 1st, 2018. He was born on Oct. 21, 1956 to Leonard C. and Betty (Millhollin) Coffey of Chillicothe and married Theresa A. Goodman on July 10, 1976 in Peoria. Chet is survived by his wife Theresa, children Justin (Andrea) Coffey of Licking, MO.; Sarah (Jeff) Carlson of Mountain Home, AR. Grandchildren Maycie and Anna Carlson of Mountain Home, AR., and Taylor and Noah Coffey of Licking, MO. Other survivors are his mother Betty Coffey; sister Linda (Robert) Williams; sister-in-law Patricia Coffey; brother-in-law Dan Schmied; his mother-in-law Sharon Goodman; sister-in-law Janey Welch; brother-in-law Bob Goodman and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard C. Coffey, his sister Lucy Schmied, and his brother Leonard L. Coffey. Chet was Head Custodian at IVC High School impacting the lives of many during his 28 year tenure. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, camping, fishing, and working on cars. His smile reflected his loving and caring personality and his passion for life. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 5th from 4-8pm at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home, 1107 N. Fourth Street, Chillicothe. Services will be Wednesday, June 6th at 10am at IVC High School Auditorium 1300 W. Sycamore, Chillicothe. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Chet Coffey Memorial Scholarship at Busey Bank, 917 N 4th St, Chillicothe. The poet Henry Longfellow said it best when he said, “When a great man dies...for years the light he leaves behind him, lies on the paths of men.” Chet’s life and impact on his family and community can never be quantified nor will it be forgotten.
