Obituary of Ruth C. McLaughlin

Ruth C. McLaughlin, 102 of Chillicothe passed away Friday, May 25, 2018 at her residence. Born January 20, 1916 in Rome, IL the daughter of William and Mary (Gerstner) Droll. She married Leo "Lee" F McLaughlin on Thanksgiving day November 25, 1937 at St. Edward Catholic Church. Lee preceded her in death on August 1, 1984. She was also preceded in death by three sisters; Janice Gollnitz, Umbria Kilmer and Bernice Foote. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Randall (Chris) Kilmer of Virginia, Rita (John) Rinas of Chandler, AZ, Marsha Cilino of Spiceland, TX and David Foote of Alameda, CA. Ruth worked at a number of Chillicothe businesses over her life, Kroger, Gilomen Drug Store, Dunlap Jewelry and for 37 years at Carlisle Drug Store. She was known throughout her community for her patriotism, volunteerism and civic pride. She was elected as a Chillicothe Township Trustee for 8 consecutive 4 year terms from May of 1981 through April of 2013 serving for 32 years. She continued to volunteer for the Chillicothe Township Senior Transportation Organization. Ruth generously donated property for the construction of the Chillicothe Veterans Memorial as a lasting tribute to all branches of the military. She was a member of the VFW Post #4999 Auxiliary and volunteered many hours at the VFW helping with Friday night BINGO and fish fry's. She was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church. Ruth served a special role at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home for many years as their greeter. Ruth enjoyed gardening, playing cards and making candy at holiday time. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am, Friday, June 1, 2018 at St. Edward Catholic Church in Chillicothe. Burial will be held in the Chillicothe City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4-7pm followed with the recitation of the rosary at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe.Additonal visitation will be held one hour prior to the Funeral Mass at her church. Memorials may be made to the Chillicothe Veterans Memorial or St. Edward Catholic Church. Online condolences may be submitted at www.weberhurdfuneralhome.com
