Understanding Funeral Pricing

Understanding funeral billing can be challenging for most people and many may also be arranging a service for the first time, making the task even more confusing for them. The only way you can make an informed decision about the services you need is if you have all the correct information. We at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home have put together this basic information that will help you understand how funeral pricing actually works.

The total cost of the funeral will eventually be determined by the funeral home you choose and the particular merchandise you select. The funeral bill is typically broken up into these segments:

Funeral goods & services

This includes a number of services such as:

  • Preparation of the decedent
  • Transferring the body to the funeral home
  • Filing the paperwork & securing permits
  • Scheduling the service on the time and day the family wants it

Additional goods & services

  • Shroud
  • Newspaper notice
  • Limousine

Cash Advances

These are for the graveside service and generally include:

  • Cemetery charges to open & close the grave
  • Clergy
  • Death certificates
  • Gratuities

Additional cash advance items can be requested. These can include airfare if the funeral home is organizing for repatriation services. When you are considering the overall cost of a funeral, the other expenses to consider are the cemetery, markers & memorials, hotel & travel costs, and more.

The types of services you opt for will decide how much you pay for the funeral. This makes it necessary to get accurate pricing from the establishment you have chosen. They would be able to provide a detailed break-up of the costs and this can help you make your decision.

If you want to know more about funeral services and other details, don’t hesitate to call us at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home. We’ll be happy to help.
