Different Ways to Personalize an Obituary

Preparing an obituary for a loved one that has passed away can be difficult. It’s not an easy task to create something personal which fits into a small paragraph. It doesn’t serve justice to the deceased. Many people struggle while others even forego the process. It isn’t a good idea to avoid writing an obituary, since it is a good method to recover from grief. Here are a few basic tips that you can use to personalize an obituary for a loved one:

  • Take The Decedent’s Personality Into Account - The easiest and best way to personalize an obituary is to add details such as the peron’s character, preferences, and personality. For example, if the decedent was a light-hearted and humorous individual, you could include that essence in the obituary.
  • Include The Tiny Details - The small and tiny details speak more about a person than anything else. Rather than including just their achievement, focus on the little things that made them special to you. This will help people get a better insight into the decedent’s life and how he/she was as a person.
  • Mention What Made Them Special To You - Explain what kind of impact they had on your life. Highlight the conversations that were personal and helped you. Adding stories and memories will make the obituary intimate and personal.
  • Use Humor- It is a misconception that humor has no place in an obituary. If the decedent had a good sense of humor and was always happy, using humor is a good idea. It will also help lighten the mood of an otherwise somber event.
